You'd be far better off:
1.  Opening up only port 22 (SSH)
2.  Creating new accounts/groups for those SILUG'ers
3.  Assigning access for those accounts to those directories as 
appropriate

"screen" can be used for simultaneous terminal access -- i.e., watching 
exactly what another user does in real-time.
