RE: Linux Sucks

I've noticed some general flakyness with the GNOME PPP tools that come with
Red Hat 7. I configured them to dial-up my Earthlink account. But, it will
often just stop working correctly, requiring you to go through the work of
setting up a connection again. The KPPP stuff seemed to work a bit better.
Also, if you miss typed your password or something went wrong when
connecting, the GNOME tool ended up spawning a whole bunch of processes that
all seemed to be unhappy that someone else was already using the serial
port. I don't remember all the details. I just found it to be flaky.
Ofcourse, this was before I did all that updating of packages, and I haven't
used it in a while, so this may be fixed by now.

By the way, I am going to be traveling out of town on Sunday, so it looks
like I won't be able to make another study session. I'll be back in two
weeks, so I'm hoping to make the next one.

Everett,
Are you using a modem or a cable modem?
If you're using a regular 56K modem go to the KDE menu click on Internet
and click on Kppp. This will step you through setting up an internet
connection.
Using Kppp you don't have to mess around with all the ppp scripting
stuff. Of course, you miss out on discovering how ppp works and learning
what all is envolved making a ppp connection, but hey, you're on the
net.:-(
