Absolutely.  Let's do it.  I'm guessing I'll need 30 minutes.  I'll bring handouts.

 

I agree that all discussions/tutorials should start with "why would I want to use this tool/command/whatever?"

 

I'll tell what I know about the relationships between MTA -- MDA -- MUA.  In my world, I don't think I'm using a MDA (procmail?), so I'm not really up on that.

 

I'll also cover how I got the POP3 thing to work under RH 7.0.

 

As I mentioned below, I've learned only enough to scrape myself up the cliff to the point where Outlook on my Win98 machine can connect to the POP3 server.  However, I'm sure that we'll have a lively and fun discussion.

Sendmail would make a great discussion. But before we get into an in-depth discussion on configuring that monster, discuss what it is, maybe preface with a discussion on how e-mail in gerneral works, e.g. MTAs, MUAs, MDAs, etc. Addres why would someone need/want sendmail. Do I need it? Those types of questions.

All I know about Sendmail is that it is pain in the koondingy and between Netscape and StarOffice I have all the E-mail I need. Therefore this becomes an important discuss and I'm glad you volunteered. Do you think you might have something ready for the next meeting?
