to be honest the only one ive used personally is freebsd.

i would recommend openbsd for a setting where security is a really really
big deal, but for a home user freebsd should do nicely. freebsd is also
optimized more for the x86 platform.

my friends that run *bsd usually run freebsd. they swear by it feeling alot
faster than linux (i cant say either way, i dont like x and nothing i ever
do under any *nix would really let me know either way). it also can run a
large amount of linux binaries (oracle for linux can be ran under freebsd
this way with no issues im told)

all in all i just like the fact that bsd is a real unix variant, and i
prefer the terms of the bsd license to the terms of the gpl (if you dont
know the difference is that gpl requires you release the source if you
change anything and use it, while i believe the bsd license only requires
you to mention what you based it off of but dont have to release the source)

granted its not much info, but i hope it helps
