installation problems

Hello all,

I'm trying to get Linux running on a IBM Thinkpad laptop 755c (486) and am
having some trouble doing so. I spoke with David Glass this morning and he
advised me to come to the next SILUG meeting, and I plan on doing so.

Here is my problem:

The computer has no CDrom, so I downloaded the Debian release which is
nicely broken up into floppy sized portions. I used Rawrite to copy these
images onto floppies. The machine boots fine on the rescue disk and runs
through the first stages of the installation--including partitioning and
initializing the hard drive. The problem comes at the point when the
install prog. begins to install the kernel. When I hit return indicating
that I want to start loading in the kernel it asks me to insert the rescue
floppy (which is already in the drive). When I hit return it informs me
that it is unable to mount the floppy. When I alt-f3 it, the error message
is this:

/dev/fd0: Device not configured
Mount /dev/fd0 (type msdos) on /floppy: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device
Mount /dev/fd0 (type ext2) on /floppy:/dev/fd0 is not a valid block device

Is it not finding my floppy drive? The drive spins and the light comes on,
if that makes any difference.

If anybody can offer any help, I'd sure appreciate it. I'm looking forward
to hearing more about Linux at the meeting.

Thanks,
Joe
