Actually, I would too.  But the point is, it has still done us much 
good, despite similar products existing at the time.  "Wannabe" made it 
sound like you were denigrating Ruby/Lua for being similar to Perl.

My point was, given that their culture had a different spoken/written 
language, and thus perhaps a different type of thinking, a perl-type 
language for their own, rather than conforming to English thought 
process, would be understandable, instead of automatically interpreting 
the existence of Ruby/Lua as the work of some silly wannabe trying to 
become the next Larry Wall.

So in summary, no, it's not "superior," it's just not inferior just 
because we have Perl, and given that different languages can lead people 
to think differently, thus leading to different programs that may do 
essentially the same thing, but for a different crowd.
