BitTorrent - rejoining the upload pool

Q: After downloading a file and disconnecting the BT client, how do I
rejoin the upload pool?
A: Use your BT client to "download" the file again.

While downloading a large file via BitTorrent, you were part of an
upload pool, helping others download the file. When you disconnected,
you left that upload pool. To rejoin the upload pool, you can do the
following:

  1) use your BT client to connect to the torrent server
  2) when your BT client asks for a location, point it to the file you
have already downloaded
  3) when your BT client asks to "cancel" or "replace", choose replace

The BT client is pretty smart. Since it notices you already have at
least part of the file, it will verify what has been downloaded and
then continue downloading whatever is missing. Verifying is very fast,
on the order of a few seconds for a 600 MB ISO. If you already have
the entire file, the BT client will verify it, indicate "download
succeeded", and continue running, thereby including you back in the
current upload pool and serving up your download to others.

This is just one way that you can help distribute OpenSource.
