I've been using a Hoontech SoundTrack 4DWAVE-NX for the past 
four years.  Was told Hoontech has superior signal-to-noise
ratio over Creative, though I haven't really had oppotunity
to compare them side-by-side.  Now that I recall, I think I
mail ordered it from a small outfit operating a vinyl-to-CD
conversion service.  The only drawback I've encountered is
that ALSA doesn't support its MIDI synth.  There's timidity 
for that.  The external MIDI is supported.  I don't know 
about the S/PDIF.

GramoFile does it all, but I've only used it for its filters.
I prefer a soundfile editor like audacity to visually monitor
the incoming audio level.  Splitting tracks implies recording
the whole LP side at once, which I don't do.  Most important 
point upon which to concentrate is the initial recording, and
there's enough transient events with vinyl to often redeem a
second take.  Doing a track or two at a time offers more focus.
