Mike,

Not sure I can help you much, but it sounds like you may be looking for
"rpmfind".  If so, it's been replaced by the "redhat-config-packages"
script in /usr/sbin. The new utility doesn't appear to allow custom
configuration like the old one did. I'm not sure, but I *think* the
package groups info you see there come from the comps and comps-extra
RPMs at install-time.

Steve's apt-get may have the capabilities you're looking for.
