Beginner question #57 8-)

Okay... I put several thousand files in a directory. Then I deleted them.

However, when I do an "ls -l" on the directory name, the size portion of
the display STILL shows the directory as being reeeeeeeeally big. Even
though it's empty.

So here's my question. Is there some sort of magic Linux process that
will occasionally scan my file system and clean it up ----- and, in this
case, make the size of my directory small again?

Thanks,
Charlie
