Well, I"m wanting to play with exceed, and the copy I have is looking for
telnet, or rsh, or a few others. I'd rather use telnet than rsh, and it
doesn't have support for ssh. This is a temporary setup thing for me to
play around with a piece of software...

And this I know too, as every message I write to this list from work is
from a putty terminal...connecting via the sshv2 protocol to the openssh
server that is ameth.org...I also use putty to forward ports to a squid
proxy to encrypt my web requests and transfers right up to our core
router. I do agree, SSH rules, and telnet is the sux....

This I also know how to do. The problem is, in.telnetd is not there.
Period. The binary was not even installed. I did the above last night
and it did nothing.

You're preaching to the converted here....I'm just wanting to play with
software... :D

I gain being able to play with this software. It's something I'd turn off
any time I'm not playing with this software...

Thank you :D

I just want you to know, I *completely* agree with your points about ssh.
Exceed is just something I've always wanted to play with, and it's asking
for telnet. I have an old version of exceed, so maybe now it has ssh
capability in the newest version. *shrug* I'll find out. I'm probably
going to set this system up to do ssh port forwarding from localhost 23 to
the remote host 23, and encrypt the telnet session anyway...
