Well, if we go after dinner, that interfere's with my daughter's bedtime. 
The light in there makes the monitor buzz, and the sound reverberates 
badly into her room. If it's a major problem for attendees, I'll work 
something out. 

However, night-time events tend to have the problem where they "linger" 
afterwards, people get home late, and by that time people are too tired to 
learn anyhow. Midday should help maintain a schedule and prevent the 
meetings from turning into "chat nights". This way, the chat events 
afterwards can be people going out to dinner (or someone bringing meat for 
the grill, whatever) for the social aspect.

Those were my reasonings for going midday.
