Re: RH 7.2 and xdm



This took care of the problem in addition to setting a valid hostname.  Evidently the RH install scripts leave the hostname blank in /etc/sysconfiig/network and use a dynamic hostname (eq dhcppc1).

Perhaps xdm wants to nslookup the ip address so that it can print "Welcome to <hostname> at the top of the screen".

Make sure there is an entry for localhost in /etc/hosts.  Make sure to put in an entry for your hostname in there pointing to 127.0.0.1 as well.

Has anyone had trouble with xdm running properly on RH 7.2 when using DHCP.
When the system boots a gui login screen never appears.  If I statically
assign the address and hostname everything works fine.  Could somebody offer
an explanation for this?
