SILUG: current events

There's lots of stuff going on this week and in the near future, so I
thought it would be easiest to post a summary.

Meeting News
------------

Due to the holiday, the Carbondale meeting that would have been today
is cancelled. The next Carbondale meeting will be October 7. We'd
like this meeting to be heavily promoted. If you live in Carbondale
and would like to help, please contact me.

There is a meeting in O'Fallon this Thursday, September 5. I'll send
a separate announcement for that in a day or two.

Fundraising
-----------

Mike808 is collecting donations for a 0.5TB SCSI RAID array that we'll
be attaching to the FTP server soon. Details here:

    http://www.silug.org/lists/silug-discuss/200208/msg00205.html

This will give us nearly 5 times as much storage as we currently have,
which means we can mirror additional things. Suggestions from
contributors are given the most consideration. :-)

Be sure to thank Mike808 for investing his own money on this hardware.

Note that donations beyond his $500 goal will go to other hardware,
such as UPSs and a cabinet to hold everything. Anything not spent on
hardware will be used to help pay for bandwidth.

Of course, you can also help fund hardware, bandwidth, etc. for the
users group by sending some business to KSPEI (http://www.kspei.com/).

Special Events
--------------

To celebrate the 8th anniversary of the first SILUG meeting (September
19, 1994, for those of you who weren't there), or at least use it as a
convenient excuse, I'm hosting a movie marathon at my house on
Saturday, September 21. There's more details here:

    http://www.silug.org/lists/silug-discuss/200208/msg00144.html

Anyone interested should contact me ASAP.
